Meaning & Definition of Wisdom (Concept / What is)
What is Wisdom?
Wisdom is the ability developed through experience, the lighting, and
reflection to discern the truth and the exercise of good judgment. Many times it is conceptualized as an advanced development of common sense. Most
psychologists and sicoanalistas refer to wisdom as a different concept
of cognitive abilities measured by intelligence tests. Wisdom
can not be taught, but that mainly develops through experience, and in
practice is associated with the virtue of prudence. Thus he associated with people who have a long life. This
is how wisdom is considered both by the culture, philosophy (in fact
comes from "filo", which is friend or search engine, and "Sophia", which
in Greek is wisdom) and religion as a virtue, which can be used to
promote the common good beyond the own personal satisfaction.
Apart from the experience, referred to in the previous paragraph as a
condition to develop the wisdom, the various philosophical currents of
history pose different ways to achieve it. The ancient Greek philosophers related courage with wisdom and moderation. In the dialogues of the philosopher Plato, it is mentioned as knowledge of the good and the courage to act accordingly. In the Catholic Church in both, he associated with justice, courage, and moderation, as one of the four cardinal virtues. The holistic, argued that the wise people were those that were aligned with the nature of the universe. On
the other hand, in Eastern philosophy, the philosopher Confucius
claimed that he could learn three different methods: Reflection (the
noblest), imitation (the easiest), and (the most bitter) experience. Buddha
while he claimed that the virtue of wisdom was to have a good behavior
of the body, as well as good verbal and mental behaviors. The
most interesting of this philosophy is that he arises that wise people
make actions that are not pleasant, but which give good results, and do
actions that even though they are pleasing produce bad results. In Taoist philosophy affirms that wisdom is knowing what to say and when to say it.
Beyond conception have the wisdom of the various philosophical currents,
is undeniable to say that it is a fundamental pillar for the spiritual
development of man, and that it is therefore necessary to practice it
and exercise it for to develop us as better people.
