Biography of Giorgio De Stefani

Giorgio De Stefani was born in Verona on February 24, 1904. He graduated in law and practice tennis since he was a boy, establishing itself as one of the best Italian players. Thanks to his skill became part of the Italian Davis Cup team for fourteen years, playing 66 games with 44 victories. Participates in 38 international matches, and in addition to being a world champion is Italian champion countless times. He possessed a high talent and a first-rate technique; had the merit of being a player also ambidextrous. Appointed member of the Executive Committee of the International Lawn Tennis Federation in 1950, he became President in 1955. Will be reconfirmed in Office in 1962 and in 1967. From 1958 to 1969 is President of FIT (Italian Tennis Federation). Later he is the Honorary President of the International Federation's honorary vice President and FIT.
He was a member of the Management Committee of the Davis Cup Nations Assembly for many years. After the Italian official delegation at the Olympic Games in London, Giorgio De Stefani was a member of the Organizing Committee of the winter games in Cortina 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. Elected member of the IOC for Italy in 1951, De Stefani was part of the Executive Committee of the International Olmipico Committee from 1964 to 1968. He was a member of the IOC Committee for the International Olympic Academy since its foundation and was a member of that Olympic programs. Athletic gold medal, De Stefani was President of Italy from 1971 Blues. As a member of the IOC Executive Committee and was a member of the National Council of CONI. He was also President of the CONI Committee sporting merits. Giorgio De Stefani died in Rome on October 22, 1992.
